I’m in a funk. I have to give a talk in NYC this Friday. It’s actually in Jersey City but if anyone asks I will probably say NYC. It sounds much better, and anyway, I think I’ll be able to see the NYC skyline from where I will be :-)
There will be 80+ people there. I will be out of my element. I don’t present to people very often and I’ve never had to stand up in front of this many people before. Someone asked me to give this talk and although I knew I would be out of my comfort zone I realized it would be good for me to do. I decided that being nervous about it was not a valid reason to say no.
Injury to insult.
A couple of weeks ago I rolled by ankle while taking a walk with my partner. My right foot came down and almost missed the sidewalk, but just caught the edge. As it happened there was a depression in the earth there so I rolled my ankle, badly. As I stumbled, almost toppling over completely, I heard something pop. I was able to make it back home without assistance. It began to swell.
I hobbled around on it for a couple of days and then decided it was not going to recover as long as I was trying to use it, so I retrieved a set of crutches from a closet and used them for a week. I also took Ibuprofen, which is an amazing substance though it can hurt my stomach sometimes. I don’t like to take it but it’s kind of unavoidable, so I try to always take it with food.
Anyway, it’s much better but day before yesterday I felt like it was swelling and hurting more, so I started staying off of it more. It’s been very unfortunate because the past few weeks the weather has been amazing. I can’t remember a nicer spring. I normally do cooking and grilling out and usually do the driving when we go somewhere, so this is a big inconvenience. He’s taking care of me but I really prefer my driving to riding with him. And I know he does not like driving. Fortunately I work from home, so that’s one problem I don’t have to deal with. I literally worked from bed the first week :-)
Thursday I’ll be a nervous wreck thinking about the presentation I have to give the next morning as I limp my way through the security line in the airport.
We watched the first few episodes of Glee season 3 on Hulu Plus and almost half way through a WWII in HD documentary on Netflix. I guess the WWII documentary is appropriate for Memorial day weekend. It is interesting.
